Campells Beach, Tofino, 26th November 2004, 4.03pm. It was my second day in Tofino, I'd walked from town down to the beach in the afternoon and stayed for the sunset. It was a great sunset, not just because of the sun but because of the other people on the beach at the time - young lovers sitting at the edge of the sand hugging to stay warm in the cold wind and kissing, a whole family of around 13 people, spanning several generations, celebrating a birthday, a father and son walking in the surf talking about the state of the NHL, a middle-aged couple walking their two dogs. This is one of the best photos I took that day. What I love most about this is the colour contrast between the warm sunlight and cold, dark black of the islands, and how the island closest to the sunshine seems warmer than the one nearest camera. I also love how the same sunlight has made the clouds nearest the lens blend into the sky, and those further away sharply defined. This was a good day.
